What a bargain! At our Bears site, they have the latest diary entry
from rookie sensation Mark Anderson, a player they picked up in the fifth-round
out of Alabama who added yet another sack to his totals during the NFC
Championship Game and who forced a fumble as well. Anderson provides great
insight as to what goes through the mind of a player leading up to and during a
huge game like that one. "It's difficult to express the feelings that I had
stepping out of the tunnel and on to the field today," he said. "There
was this tremendous roar from the crowd. It really got us all going. As soon as
I heard that, any nerves that I'd had up to that point disappeared. I'll admit
that I had a difficult time getting any sleep the night before..." Scout.com
subscribers can read his entire diary entry at our Chicago site.
Pay attention: Rich Tandler at our Redskins site believes
Washington could learn a few lessons from watching the playoffs that could help
them become participants rather than spectators. "The Redskins aren’t
seriously considering trading Clinton Portis, but if they want to get some
pointers on how to keep both Portis and Ladell Betts content given that there is
just one ball to hand off on any given play, they need look no further than the
final four playoff teams. The Bears (Thomas Jones--1,210) , Colts (Joseph Addai--1081),
and Saints (Deuce McAllister--1057) had their leading rushers gain over 1,000
yards. The second-leading rusher on each of those teams had around 600
yards." Read more of his
analysis at our Redskins site.
De-fense! Nick Athan at our Chiefs site makes his point loud and
clear. A key offseason move for Kansas City is to focus this year's draft
efforts on the defensive side of the ball. "The biggest area of need is
along the interior of the defensive line. This team has whiffed drafting at that
position since Hank Stram was head coach," he says. Scout.com
subscribers can read his full analysis and find out which positions the
Chiefs will likely focus on in this year's draft.
Today's birthday bunch: Colts LB Rocky Boiman (27), Chiefs LB

Furrey re-signed: Our Lions site is reporting that exciting wide
receiver Mike Furrey won't be hitting the free agent market in March after all.
"The deal will span three-years, although additional terms of the contract
were not disclosed," according to their report. Get
the full scoop at our Detroit site.
Re-sign or release? At our Packers site, Todd Korth provides his
analysis of what the team should do in regards to tight end David Martin's
future with the team. Martin's two-year, $1.365 million contract is up and he'll
hit unrestricted free agency in March. "Do the Packers keep this guy
around, knowing that he has the ability to stretch the field, run well after
making a catch, and block halfway decent for the team’s rushing attack,"
Korth asks. "Or does the team finally discard him because he has missed 26
games since he was selected in the sixth round of the 2001 NFL draft by the
Packers?" Scout.com
subscribers can find out the answer to that question at our Green Bay site.
Vikings' horn? Saints wide receiver Joe Horn is scheduled to
make $4 million next year but has had to work through injuries these past two
seasons. Is it the end of the line for the talented wide receiver in New
Orleans? Our Vikings site takes a look at that situation and talks about how
he could be a candidate for the No. 1 receiver spot in Minnesota.
Decisions, decisions... At our Miami site, Alain Poupart provides
his thoughts on who the Dolphins should look at with their first-round pick and
on the coaching changes in Miami. "The top priority at this point appears
to be for a playmaker on offense, which means a game-breaking wide
receiver," he says. "That won't be Calvin Johnson of Georgia Tech
because he'll be a top five pick." Scout.com
subscribers can find out who Poupart believes best fits the bill, along with
a few other possibilities.

Getting offensive: Michael Wagaman at our Raiders site reports
that new head coach Lane Kiffin doesn't believe that being just 31 years old
will keep him from commanding the respect of his players. ''Players don't care
about age,'' Kiffin said. ''Players want to be coached. Great players want to
get better and that's what we're going to do, by a great system, one that's in
place on defense and one that I'll bring on offense." Scout.com
subscribers can read more about what the Raiders' new head coach had to say
at our Oakland site.
