With so many young linebackers on their roster, a veteran's job became expendable on Monday.

Veteran SLB Dhani Jones was released on Monday by the Eagles. Second-year SLB Chris Gocong, who was placed on IR prior to last season, will move up the depth chart with the first-team defense.

Jones, who played on the weakside for the New York Giants before signing with the Eagles, could find a backup job at any of the three linebacker positions. Jones played inside in college at the University of Michigan.

It still hasn't been decided where recently acquired LB Takeo Spikes will line up this season.
