Want to know more about Colts' top pick Anthony Gonzalez? Then let the former
wide receiver out of Ohio State tell you ... in his own words.
When you think about the type of players that the Indianapolis Colts have on
their team, it shouldn't have been surprising to see them add Ohio State wide
receiver Anthony Gonzalez to their lineup with their first pick in the NFL
draft.
Not only did the Colts need a fearless slot receiver following the release of
Brandon Stokley, they needed someone mature and focused enough to accept the
challenge of becoming a starter in his rookie season. And when you listen to
Gonzalez talk, you can tell by both his words and his demeanor that he possesses
those traits--and the character that the team likes to project off the field.
"What I hope to bring is consistency and reliability and accountability--on
the field, off the field, wherever," he said during his interview at the
NFL Scouting Combine earlier this year. "I want to be the type of person that
coaches and fans and the media knows that when he comes to a situation ... this is what we expect out of him and he's a consistent
person, so we believe that that's what he'll do. That's how I've tried to
approach everything in life, really. I want to be as consistently good as
possible."
Gonzalez is refreshingly open about his outlook on the game, his assessment
of his own skills and on life in general. A solidly-grounded family man, he told
the media that he's not concerned about being under the spotlight and having
people put his life under a microscope, because he doesn't have anything to
hide.
"To be honest, I don't care if people know everything about me," he
said. "I've always
been a very open person when it comes to pretty much anything in my life."
