Steuber's 2008 NFL Mock Draft: Round Two

You've been enjoying his first-round mock drafts for the last few months. Now Scout.com's NFL Draft Analyst Chris Steuber digs deeper and debuts his second-round mock draft. See who your favorite team may target after Round One.

The Dolphins added DE Chris Long in the first round and now it's time to address the offense. Miami may look at a running back with this pick, but the need for a playmaking tight end is obvious. USC's Fred Davis gives the Dolphins a nice option over the middle.
33	(3 - 13)	OT	Carl Nicks	Nebraska	Sr.	6-5	335
The Rams suffered a lot of injuries on the offensive line last season. With the future of Orlando Pace uncertain, St. Louis has to think about the future. Nebraska's massive force Carl Nicks is just what the Rams need.
34	(4 - 12)	DE	Quentin Groves	Auburn	Sr.	6-3	252
The Raiders have to upgrade their defensive front, most notably at defensive tackle. But adding a pass rusher who can get to the quarterback will benefit Oakland's defense. The Raiders recorded just 28 sacks last season and the addition of Quentin Groves will improve that total.

The Chiefs have improved their secondary, but they still lack playmakers. Kansas City finished 25th in the league for the worst interception total (14). Adding a versatile defender, who can play safety or corner is ideal and Oklahoma's Reggie Smith can do just that.

Adding a big play wide receiver is something the Jets desperately need. Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are good possession receivers, who have YAC ability, but a player like Adarius Bowman can break open a game.

The Falcons got their franchise QB in the first round and now they are in a situation where a playmaker has fallen into their lap. Running back isn't a high priority, but Felix Jones is a dynamic player who can star on offense and special teams.
38	(5 - 11)	CB	Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie	Tennessee State	Sr.	6-1	183
The Ravens have always had solid play in the secondary. But with Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle in their thirties, a youth movement has to take place. Baltimore settles on Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who has played well during Senior Bowl week and his stock is on the rise.
39	(5 - 11)	DE	Lawrence Jackson	USC	Sr.	6-5	270
The Niners have to generate a consistent pass rush and adding a DE is a priority. USC standout Lawrence Jackson gives the Niners a potential sack artist.
40	(7 - 9)	MLB	Curtis Lofton	Oklahoma	Jr.	6-0	235
The Saints continue to upgrade their defense in the draft. They selected Mike Jenkins in the first round and now they add a physical linebacker, Oklahoma's Curtis Lofton.
41	(7 - 9)	CB	Terrell Thomas	USC	Sr.	6-1	200
The Bills added a major offensive weapon with their first pick and with their second selection they have to address the secondary. USC's Terrell Thomas is exactly what the Bills need.
42	(7 - 9)	DT	Pat Sims	Auburn	Jr.	6-4	315
The Broncos have to add an inside presence on the defensive line. Auburn's Pat Sims is an intriguing prospect with a lot of upside.
43	(7 - 9)	DE	Phillip Merling	Clemson	Jr.	6-5	270
With Michael Rucker contemplating his future and Julius Peppers lack of production this past season, the Panthers have to consider adding a DE. Clemson's Phillip Merling is the pick.
44	(7 - 9)	RB	Jamaal Charles	Texas	Jr.	6-1	205
I know what Bears fans are thinking, and I'm sure seeing another Texas running back as a draft pick makes you feel uneasy. But Charles is an elusive runner with big play potential. Chicago has to improve on its 83 YPG on the ground and Charles has the ability to handle the load.
45	(7 - 9)	OT	Gosder Cherilus	Boston College	Sr.	6-6	313
Adding depth to the offensive line will help the Lions offense become more productive. Finding a versatile tackle, who can play on the left and right side is ideal. Gosder Cherilus is the answer for Detroit.
46	(7 - 9)	OLB	Xavier Adibi	Virginia Tech	Sr.	6-1	223
The Bengals have had bad luck with injuries at the linebacker position. But it's obvious they need a playmaker on the outside. Xavier Adibi is an athletic player who can get in the backfield and cause problems. Welcome to Cincinnati.
47	(8 - 8)	WR	Devin Thomas	Michigan State	Jr.	6-2	215
For Tarvaris Jackson to have any chance at being a successful QB he needs a big play receiver who can stretch the field. Devin Thomas had a breakout season for Michigan State this past season and has a chance to be special at the next level.
48	from Texans (8 - 8 )	OT	Anthony Collins	Kansas	Jr.	6-6	315
When you add a young QB in the first round you want to make sure he has a solid line to protect him. Atlanta adds a young OT in Anthony Collins to go along with Brian Brohm.
49	(8 - 8)	CB	Tracy Porter	Indiana	Sr.	5-10	183
With the top cornerbacks off the board in the first round, the Eagles settled for a premier pass rusher. But in round two, selecting Tracy Porter gives Philly the return man they need and depth in the secondary.
50	(8 - 8)	TE	Martellus Bennett	Texas A&M	Jr.	6-6	250
The Cardinals could address multiple positions with this pick, but the biggest need is at tight end. Leonard Pope is good when he's healthy, but Martellus Bennett has great potential.
51	(9 - 7)	WR	Lavelle Hawkins	California	Sr.	5-11	175
The Redskins have to think about upgrading at the WR position and Hawkins is a nice fit. He was the best receiver in Mobile during Senior Bowl week..
52	(9 - 7)	CB	Antoine Cason	Arizona	Sr.	6-0	191
The Bucs get their game breaker in the first round and now they add a young cover corner, Arizona's Antoine Cason, in the second round.
53	(10 - 6)	OG	Oniel Cousins	UTEP	Sr.	6-4	302
The Steelers are on a mission to upgrade their offensive line through the draft.. Drafting Jeff Otah in the first round and now Oniel Cousins in the second round gives Pittsburgh a nice nucleus.
54	(10 - 6)	TE	Dustin Keller	Purdue	Sr.	6-2	251
The Titans continue to give Vince Young weapons. In the first round it was Limas Sweed and now it's Purdue's talented TE Dustin Keller.
55	(10 - 6)	DT	Dre Moore	Maryland	Sr.	6-3	308
The Seahawks have good interior defensive linemen and used a third round pick on Brandon Mebane last season. But the upside of Moore is too much to pass up.
56	(10 - 6)	DT	Joseph Bryant	Texas A&M	Sr.	6-4	330
The Browns have to find a replacement for the aging Ted Washington, and adding Aggies DT Red Bryant gives Cleveland what they're looking for.
57	from Chargers (11 - 5 )	QB	Joe Flacco	Delaware	Sr.	6-6	237
The Dolphins used a second round pick on John Beck last year, but with new management and a new head coach in place, they will want to identify their own QB. Flacco is rising and the Dolphins believe he's their man.
58	(11 - 5)	DE	Chris Ellis	Jacksonville	Sr.	6-4	257
The Jaguars have to add depth at defensive end and hope they come away with a starter at this spot. Virginia Tech's Chris Ellis plays with a high motor and will add toughness to the D-Line.
59	(13 - 3)	RB	Matt Forte	Tulane	Sr.	6-1	223
In today's NFL, having two capable running backs is a must. The Colts have Joseph Addai, but depth is an issue. Tulane's Matt Forte has emerged as a highly touted prospect at the Senior Bowl and adds the perfect compliment to the Colts' offense.

Drafting a RB in the first round may not have been necessary, but with the talented Chris Johnson available the Packers decide to add a playmaker.
61	(13 - 3)	CB	Brandon Flowers	Virginia Tech	Jr.	5-10	190
The Cowboys addressed the offensive side of the ball in the first round and now it's time to get a DB. Hokies CB Brandon Flowers adds playmaking potential to the Dallas defense.
62	(10 - 6)	CB	Simeon Castille	Alabama	Sr.	6-0	192
The Giants may look to add an offensive weapon at this pick, but the defense has some holes that need to be filled. Castille, paired with Aaron Ross, gives the Giants a nice tandem.
63	(16 - 0 )	MLB	Erin Henderson	Maryland	Jr.	6-3	245
The Patriots continue to add youth to their defense, but this time it's at linebacker with the addition of Erin Henderson.
