Brayton Finds a New Home

John Fox

The Carolina Panthers were looking for some pass rushing help and found some on Tuesday. With veteran DE Mike Rucker expected to be playing elsewhere in 2008, the Panthers made a move on Tuesday and reached a two-deal with free agent DE Tyler Brayton.

Brayton visited the Panthers on Saturday and the Indianapolis Colts on Monday.

Brayton flew back to his home in California Monday evening to mull over the decision and decided Tuesday to sign with the team that gave him the best chance to start which is clearly Carolina of the two teams.

Brayton will compete for the RDE job against second-year pro Charles Johnson.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, and Cincinnati Bengals also showed interest in the former first-round pick of the Oakland Raiders.

Oakland made a last-minute push to re-sign Brayton before the start of free agency but he chose to go in a different direction.
