Flash Analysis |
Tampa Bay had two big needs - wide receiver and cornerback. By taking Talib, the Bucs are taking a big corner that could be an immediate fit in their defense as a third cornerback and eventually be Ronde Barber's successor. He's considered a shutdown corner, which isn't necessarily needed in the Cover 2, but welcome. He plants and drives well. He needs to work on his ball skills. But on a defense where the No. 2 and No. 3 corners, Phillip Buchanon and Eugene Wilson, are both in the final year of their contracts, Talib will face pressure immediately to step in and play a prominent role. But he appears to have the skills to do so. - Matt Postins, BucsBlitz.com

Adam Caplan's Take |
The team apparently decided against trading for veteran CB Lito Sheppard and went with the younger and perhaps even more talented Talib. While Talib had been red flagged by some teams, Tampa Bay was comfortable enough with the information they received in order to select him. While Talib doesn't run as well as the cornerbacks selected ahead of him, he's a bit more physical. He'll likely compete right away against veteran CB Philip Buchanon.
