Flash Analysis |
The Vikings moved up four spots in the second round to take a player that likely won't see much playing time in 2008, but this is a pick for the future, as safety Darren Sharper's contract is up after 2008. The biggest question on Johnson would be the level of competition he faced in the Sun Belt conference, but with a year of grooming and his level of athleticism (a 4.4-second 40 at the combine and 27 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press) he could prove to be a good value. His statistics say he is a tackling machine, and the Vikings put a lot of emphasis on stopping the run. - Tim Yotter, Viking Update

Adam Caplan's Take |
Minnesota is looking to eventually replace SS Darren Sharper and the heady Johnson will likely back him up this season then replace Sharper when he decides to retire.
