There are a bunch of veteran free agent linebackers and cornerbacks who could come in and play a significant role right away.

Defensive Tackle
Albert Haynesworth (franchise player)
Rod Coleman - The Atlanta Falcons decided to go with younger players in his place. But Coleman should have at least two productive years left in him.
Anthony McFarland - He's coming back from patella tendon surgery but the feeling is he'll be able to contribute to a team in a reserve role this season.
James Reed
Ethan Kelley - Despite coming back from microfracture knee surgery, he's had at least three free agent visits so far this year.
Grady Jackson - He looked like he was pushing "four bills" last season yet Jackson actually played well against the run.

Kimo Von Oelhoffen - He actually played well in limited playing time last season so he may be able to play another season.

Al Wilson - He's been cleared to play by a neck/spine specialist but remains unsigned.
Odell Thurman - The Cincinnati Bengals decided they would move on without him. There are unconfirmed rumors that he's been suspended again by the league.
Lemar Marshall
Junior Seau - He still hasn't decided yet if he wants to play for the New England Patriots again. If he does, it could be in a backup role since the team is very high on rookie ILB Jerod Mayo.
Jeremiah Trotter - He had a free agent visits recently so Trotter wants to play at least one more season but it would have to be in a backup role.
Brian Simmons - He refused a pay cut and was released recently by the New Orleans Saints.

Takeo Spikes (ILB in 3-4) - He's had some interest in free agency but may be waiting for a deal that will pay him more than the veteran minimum.

Rosevelt Colvin - The pass-rushing defender had a free agent visit with the Houston Texans and other teams remain interested in his services. He'll have to pass a physical first though. Colvin has to prove that his broken foot has healed sufficiently.
Kendrell Bell - He'll go down as one of the worst free agent signings for the Kansas City Chiefs in the last 10 years.

Chad Scott - He missed all of 2007 due to a knee injury.
Duane Starks - He was recently released by the Oakland Raiders. The oft-injured defensive back still could find a job in a nickel role this season.
